Stay Put String Nock
Steve McD, Hudson Valley, NY

Many traditional archers like to use the tie-on nock method for a bow string nock rather than installing a brass nock which can wear the bowstring as well as one's tab or glove. Also, the tie on string nock just seems "more traditional."

For those traditionalists that tie on a string nock and desire that the nock stays in place and does not move up or down the bowstring, there is another--possibly better--alternative to using "super glues" on the string nock. Fisherman and fishing rods builders have been aware of this for years in rod building and ferrule repair. Clear Gloss Fingernail Polish is a great alternative to Super Glue. It dries clear, waterproof and once dry it is extremely durable.

The draw backs of super glue, which contains cyanocrylate, are largely related to ventilation and fumes causing irritation of the eyes, nose and throat for individuals with that sensitivity. There have also been reports of "Super Glue" being mistaken for eye and nose drops.

Place nail polish right on top of string nock.

Once you have determined your nock point. Use a series of overhand/square knots tying upwards in four rotations up the bowstring, and then four rotations back down on top. Then put on a coat of clear gloss nail polish and let dry.
