Diaper Rash? Not Just for Babies Anymore

Last year I was on a drop hunt in British Columbia. After a week of hard hunting in unseasonably warm weather, my pants had started to chafe the insides of my thighs. Being a "man's man" and knowing that there wasn't much that I could do about the discomfort, I continued to hike up and down the mountains each day, knowing that my only relief at the time was when my legs got sweaty I would have some minor lubrication, but it was like rubbing salt in an open wound.

At night I would try and sit with a "wide stance" (much like Idaho Senator Larry Craig), however, trying to keep my legs apart in the mummy bag that I was sleeping in would prove to be difficult. I carried this burden secretly for a couple days, and after my hunting partner and guide found me sitting in the 35 degree lake, they inquired what was going on and I tried to explain what the bright red glow was coming from under the water.

Relief was not in sight. Somehow I made it out on the float plane, back to the lower 48. I arrived in Missoula, MT, and asked my hunting partner which bedroom was Rudy's, his 4 month old. I had a 1 year old daughter at home and I knew what I was looking for. I raced into the room, and applied a liberal amount of Desitin Diaper Cream to the inside of my thighs, which looked like a baboon's ass. Relief was instant. I got in my truck and for the first time in ten days my focus was not the burning of my flesh. I drove back to Boise, and when I got out of the truck and went inside to show my wife the burden, it was gone, in less than 8 hours the Desitin had cured it.

Since that time my daughter has turned two, and my wife and I have had a son, so in the last two years I have become an expert in changing diapers and diaper rash. During this time my wife and I have discovered another product that works as well or better that Desitin, Boudreaux Butt Paste, I initially purchased the product because of the name, but have found that it can cure diaper rash on my children almost between diaper changes.

Now when I go hunting I always throw a little travel tube of one of these products in my kit. However, to prevent this calamity from occurring, I have found a product that long distance runners and swimmers use, Body Glide. Body Glide can be used to prevent chafing, and even used on feet to prevent blisters. As they say, prevention is better than a cure.
