Hand Sanitizer for Bites

By Rick Fouts
Printer-Friendly Format

I discovered this "cure" somewhat by accident. I am extremely sensitive to chiggers. I can get a chigger bite and in two days it will swell as large as a quarter and turn as dark as a liver spot. This week while at church camp I had another encounter with the little buggers. In desperation I applied some hand sanitizer from my wife's purse and to my surprise found near instant relief. Additionally the bites stayed small, like they would on most people.

With some twenty bites on my legs about six went on to the swelling stage but the others diminished. It didn't work for every bite but it had a definite effect on most of them.

Editor's Note: I was skeptical when I got this tip…until I tried it. Mine was a mosquito bite and it took the itch away within minutes and it didn't flare up again. It might not work for everyone, but I'll be carrying it when mosquitos and chiggers could be problem. ~Robin
