Plan for Keeping Hydrated
J. W. McCorkle
Printer-Friendly Format

We have all read articles about staying hydrated and the dangers of not drinking enough water on a hunt and losing too much water content and electrolytes. Now here's a thought for your consideration.

Hydration should not wait until the day of the hunt. You should start five days before your hunt. The reason is, your body needs to not only take in the water but stabilize the electrolytes (balance your system) before you create a major need to replenish.

Two things happen when you have a sudden drop in your moisture level. Your kidneys start to shut down and a low electrolyte levels make decisions very difficult. Both are extremely dangerous, especially on a hunt, away from civilization. Pre-hydration helps your body prepare before the need. Before you go, drink plenty of water and sports drinks. Your body will thank you.
